Dyslexia simply means difficulty with words..Dys-difficulty and lexia-words. It is a disorder manifested by difficulties in learning to read, despite conventional  instruction, adequate intelligence, and socio  cultural opportunity. It is estimated that in India 10% of the school going children are dyslexics.  More prevalent among boys than girls in the ratio 4 :1 . It is a neurological disorder.
 
     
  Parents, Teachers and grandparents can help the dyslexics get over there difficulties with proper remediation.  
     
 
Madras Dyslexia Association  offers for the parents regular counselling, and offers help to schools by conducting awareness programmes for teachers as well as setting up centres for on going consultancy.
 
     
 
conducts workshops  for teachers, and also creates awareness among the public. They have also started a school "Ananya" for  giving  pull out programmes for any student referred by their respective school.
